SPEARMAN - Elmon "Jake" Jacobs, 88, died Saturday, May 5, 2007.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Hansford Cemetery with Mike Nixon officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman.

Mr. Jacobs was born Jan. 3, 1919, near Elmwood, Okla. He married Alteena Harvey in 1955, in Woodward, Okla. She died in 1992. He married Helen Spalding in 1995 in Pampa. He was a 1935 graduate of Spearman High School and an army veteran of World War II.

Mr. Jacobs is a member of Jehovahs Witness Church in Perryton. He was employed by Spearman Post Office for 18 years, serving 11 years as postmaster and retired in 1976.

Elmon was an avid gardner and was a purple martin enthusiast with 50 pair nesting in his backyard.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Jacobs; five grandchildren, Jeff Jacobs and wife Ginger of Spiro, Okla., Jennifer Maddox and husband Ricky of Fort Smith, Ark., Tom Bowman and wife Cheryl of Denver, Dian Oakes and husband Steven of Allen and Mike Pack and wife Teresa of Spearman; two brothers, Ledru Jacobs of Denver and Jerry Jacobs of Gonzales.

The family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity.
