Jammie Lynn Lamb, 81 was called home on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at Southpark Meadows Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Austin, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Ellis Lamb and Pansy Mae Slater Lamb Maddox; two brothers, Waymon Lamont Lamb and Paul Damon Lamb, and two sister, Hettie Jacqueline Maddox Nye and Nelda Lamb Odom (Robert). He is survived by five sisters, Pansy Jo Maddox Habicht (Gary), Betty Eloise Mayberry, Martha Marie Lamb Pilkenton (Ken), Martha Helen Maddox Mayberry (Richard), and Glenda Gale Lamb Hillestad (Mike). He is also survived by his wife of 57 years, Sharon Kay Swearingen Lamb; one daughter, Gayla Lynn Lamb Coppler (Dave), and three sons, Dayne Thomas Lamb, James Bret Lamb (Katherine), and Glen Donaway Lamb (Jill). Also nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
Jammie was born September 22, 1936 in Maud, Texas. He grew up in Louisiana where he joined the U.S. Air Force and served for 20 years, including a tour of combat duty in the Vietnam war for which he received a Bronze Star for his work there.
Jammie loved life and wasted few moments. He was a fireman in the Air Force and was awarded the Airman's Medal for Heroism after selflessly running into the wreckage of a burning plane crash and pulling out survivors.
After retiring from the military he moved his family to Northern Iowa where he worked as a farmhand for many years until he started his own business providing combine harvesting services for the local community.
He was a musician, a golfer, a disc jockey, a licensed HAM radio operator, A motocross rider, and a glider plane pilot. He dabbled in numerous hobbies and was a jack of many trades, using his talents to help others when ever possible. He loved Jesus Christ, and always had a Bible verse handy for any situation.
Graveside services will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, Texas, on March 27th at 1:30 PM.
