Murl E Pearson Sr., 91, Spearman, entered the "Gates of Heaven" early Thursday morning, May 28, 2020.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, June 1, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Hansford Cemetery, with Son - David Pearson and Rev. Billy Snider officiating. Due to COVID 19 guidelines, social distancing guidelines will be followed. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman
Murl was born to James Marvin Pearson and Cora Adeline Fickling on April 24, 1929 in Newcastle, Texas. He came from a family of 5 children, being survived only, by his baby sister Bettie Bennett of Whitedeer, Texas. At the early age of 15, right after Christmas break from Newcastle High, Murl decided he would much rather work than do homework. So, while walking to school, he told his younger brother he had packed and hidden a box of his belongings from his Mother, as he was sure, if he had told her, she would not have allowed him to leave, but he needed her to send it once he got to his destination. And with that, off he went, leaving his home to begin his independent adult life. His mode of transportation was attached to his hand getting from state to state, job to job and home often enough to check in with his family.
His travels eventually brought him to the Texas Panhandle to work during wheat harvest, landing him in Spearman where he had to sleep on courthouse lawn as all motels were filled to capacity. At the end of harvest, he spent the next while taking on whatever jobs he could find, during which time he received news that his own Dad had been injured in an accident, later dying from complications of the injury, and so he took on the responsibility of helping his mother and little sister. Eventually moving them to Gruver, where he soon gained employment with Texas Hwy Dept. In August 1951 he was drafted into the United States Marine Corps. While stationed in Arlington, Va., he met and married Annabelle Snyder (Pearson). They were joined in marriage on August 6, 1952, with the ceremony being performed by their Marine chaplain.
In August 1953, having received an honorable discharge from the Marine Corp, Murl loaded up his wife and newborn son, headed back home to Gruver, Hansford County, Texas where his job with the Highway Dept was still waiting for his return. Eventually, over time, and with the addition of five more children, multiple business ventures and partnerships, Murl and Annabelle wound up in Spearman with their last successful business venture - 30 years of owning and operating Hi-Plains Conoco in Spearman. In November of 1992, they closed the doors of the service station, and one more, this time, with his wife in tow, along with travel trailer and fishing boat, Murl was off on adventure.!
Over the years, Murl shared many stories of his life and adventures with family, friends and acquaintances, never failing to share his most important story. With tears in his eyes and a smile on his face, he would tell how two years into their marriage they had invited someone to live with them and who lives with them still.... And as he would raise his hand toward the heavens, he would say, "... And His name is JESUS.."
He was preceded by his parents a sister, Mozel and two brothers, Raymond and Joe Vern.
Having been Blessed with 91 years of God's Grace and Goodness, it was just time for him to call it a day and go on Home.. Daddy, We Love you So Very Much.... We know Mama was waiting with open arms alongside Ed, Theresa and Johnny to welcome Home...
He is survived by one daughter: Linda Town and husband Bruce of Spearman; two sons, David Pearson and wife Cyndi of Perryton, Calvin Pearson and wife Darla of Logan, N.M. and 18 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews, friends and acquaintances.
