February 15, 1938 - March 5, 2019
Ronald Howard Lewis, 81, returned to his heavenly home on Tuesday, March 5, 2019. Ronald was born to Leon and Muriel Lewis on February 15, 1938 in Frederick, Oklahoma. They moved to Texas in 1945, where Ronald graduated from Muleshoe High School.
Like most who are raised in rural communities, agriculture always had a large role in Ronald’s life. However, working with horses and cattle quickly became his passion which led him to spend most of his life as a cowboy, dedicating 41 years working at 6666 Ranch in Guthrie. He was also a devoted member of the community, serving as a deacon of First Baptist Church of Guthrie, a leader for the King County 4-H and mentor to anyone who would listen.
Ronald was blessed with a large and loving family. He married Mona Rea on February 25, 1956 in Muleshoe and shared 3 children with her before she passed on March 13,1977. Ronald remarried on July 20,1978 to Linda Jo and they shared a life raising 3 additional children until she passed on February 1, 2018. He is also preceded in death by his parents, his sister Lenita and his brother Morris. Ronald will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father, generous friend and talented horseman but most importantly the legacy he leaves is as a Godly man who dedicated his life to serving the Lord.
He leaves behind his daughters, Shirley Long and husband Derrell, Linda Jones and husband Jeff; his sons Clint Lewis and wife Sherella, Leon Lewis and wife Jamie; his stepdaughter Lauretta Engebretson and husband Brad; his stepson Avery Hammonds; his sisters Rita Brunton, Patricia Wilson and husband Stanley, Ellen Brink and husband Terry; his brother Kirk and wife Cheryl Lewis; 16 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Family and friends will gather at the Guthrie Community Center on Saturday, March 9 for visitation from 9:00-10:30 a.m. immediately followed by a funeral service.
Interment will follow in the Guthrie Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to: Guthrie Baptist Youth Building Fund, PO Box 8, Guthrie, TX 79236
