Jerry Dwain Miller 78 went to be with his Lord Friday evening in Lubbock, funeral service will be held 2:00pm Monday April 3, 2017 at Jack Huey field in Guthrie with burial to follow in the Guthrie cemetery under the care and direction of Giles-McCoy Funeral Home of Aspermont.

Jerry was born on January 27, 1939 to Emsley and Bessie Miller in Dickens.

Jerry graduated from Guthrie High School and attended Howard Payne University.

While at Howard Payne, Jerry met his future wife, Anna Lou Joines. Jerry and Anna celebrated 47 years of marriage and had two children; Ronny and DeEtte.

Upon graduation from Howard Payne, Jerry was drafted by the Denver Broncos during the 1961 American Football League draft. After suffering a career ending knee injury, Jerry went on to become one of the most successful and beloved six-man football coaches of all time. Jerry coached football for forty-three years at multiple small towns across Texas. His lifetime coaching record of 277-164-5, including 12 District Championships, 12 Bi-District Championships, 6 Regional Championships, and 4 State Semi-Finalist wins, has made him the winningest coach in Texas 6-Man history. In 2009 Jerry was inducted into the Texas 6-Man hall of fame.

Jerry lost Anna to an unexpected death in 2008 and retired from coaching in 2009. After retirement, Jerry made his permanent address in Guthrie. Jerry's passion to inspire youth did not stop after retirement, as demonstrated by his continued involvement with substitute teaching in Paducah and attending football practice in Guthrie. Jerry spent his free time after retirement golfing with his son, sitting on the front porch and talking with his daughter, and seeing his family as much as he could.

Those left to cherish the memory of Jerry are his son; Ronny Miller and wife Marian, his daughter; DeEtte Criswell and husband Rickey, his three brothers; Ronnie, Donald, and Ronald, three grandchildren; Kaleb Criswell and wife Lindsey, Kamri Criswell, and Lexi Miller, and one great grandchild; Kactus Criswell.

Jerry is preceded in death by his beloved wife; Anna, two of their children; Jerry Jr. and Jeff, and one of his brothers; Carl Ray.
