PILOT POINT - Corda Carter, 90, formerly of Dumas, died Thursday, June 19, 2008.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel in Dumas. Burial will be in Lane Memorial Cemetery in Sunray.

Corda was born Dec. 8, 1917, in Hominy, Okla., to Sebe and Nelle Graham Young. Corda had five brothers and five sisters. Her family moved to Littlefield in the 1920s, where they farmed in Parmer and Lamb counties. Her father also drilled one of the first water wells there. She married Clark K. Carter. They also farmed in Sherman and Moore counties.

She and Clark loved farming and enjoyed watching the crops grow. Corda's family was the center of her life, second only to God. She was a longtime member of the Assembly of God in Dumas.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a grandson, Jimmy Carter; and a great-granddaughter, Dani.

Survivors include three sons, Buford and wife Mary of Gering, Neb., Kenneth and wife Carolyn of Sunray and Pete and wife Linda of Cooper; two daughters, Joy Hughes of Malvern, Ark., and Judy Janzen and husband Herman of Little Elm; a sister, Mary Stowers; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many more family members.

The family suggests memorials be to First Assembly of God, 287 S. Dumas Ave., Dumas, TX 79029; or a favorite charity.

Family visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home chapel.
