James Oran Anderson, 83, went to be with his heavenly Father on Monday, March 12, 2007 after a brief illness.
He was born to William Nelson and Eunice Farmer Anderson on Oct. 30, 1923. He also had a second mother, Viola Brown Anderson. James graduated from Floydada High School and attended Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. He served his country in WWII as a decoder for the Signal Corp and as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division. He and Jean Waller were married on Aug. 10, 1947. James was a Realtor, salesman and farmer and at the time of his death was overseeing his farm. He retired from Montgomery Ward in 1988. He was ordained a Deacon at Trinity Baptist Church and served for many years. At the time of this death he was a member of Oakwood Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Winnie Ruth Anderson Willis and Mary Grace Anderson.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Jean of 59 years; two daughters, Shirley and husband Edward Anglin of Massachusetts and Nancy and husband, Gerald Purdy of Waco; three grandchildren, Angela and Mark Wood of Waco, Caryn and Stacey Smith, Jr. of Richardson and Kacey and Dr. Joshua Warren of Houston; three great-grandchildren, Ryan Mark Wood, Stacey Reese Smith, III and Ally Anderson Wood.
The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 14, 2007 at White Funeral Home, 2210 Broadway, Lubbock, Texas. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 15, 2007 at Oakwood Baptist Church with Rev. Woodrow Jackson officiating joined by Gerald Purdy, son-in-law of James.
Graveside Services will follow at 2:30 p.m. in Floydada Cemetery.
Memorials may be made in James' honor to Hospice of Lubbock, P.O. Box 16800, Lubbock, Texas 79490-6800.
Arrangements are under the personal care of White Funeral Home of Lubbock. Online condolences may be sent at www.whitefuneralhome.com.
