Services for Wava Barrick, 89, of Abernathy, TX were held at 2:00 pm Thursday, September 15, 2005, in the Abernathy First United Methodist Church with Rev. Jerry Don Cheshire and Rev. Russ Byard officiating. Burial followed services in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy. Mrs. Barrick died at her home Monday, September 12, 2005.

She was born July 26, 1916 in Hardeman County, TX to Floyd and Eunice Coleman. She graduated Olton High School, attended West Texas State Teachers College in Canyon and Lipperts Business College in Plainview, TX. She was employed as a legal secretary in Plainview and Lubbock prior to her marriage to Hilburn Barrick on September 2, 1939 in Abernathy, TX. She moved to Abernathy in 1939 from Lubbock. She was a member of the Abernathy Rebekkah Lodge, Open Door Sunday School Class, Abernathy Senior Citizens and the First United Methodist Church and had been a former member of the 1935 Study Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hilburn Barrick, October 9, 1995, and 4 brothers, Oris, Cortis, Curtis and Jack. She is survived by 3 sons, Bill Barrick and wife Martha of Leander, TX, Wendell Barrick and wife Sally of Abernathy, TX, and Ron Barrick and wife Cheryl of Georgetown, TX. She is also survived by 8 grandsons, Toby Barrick and wife Lynn, John Barrick and wife Susan, Johnathon Todd Barrick, James Stephen Barrick and wife Phyllis, Jeff Barrick and wife Terry, Brian Barrick and wife Melanie, Cody Barrick and wife Carrie, and Chris Barrick and wife Maria, 12 great grandchildren, a brother, F. B. Coleman of Irving, TX and one sister, Essie Lee Sluder of Olton, TX.

The family also suggests memorials be sent to the First United Methodist Church, 704 Ave. D, Abernathy, TX 79311 or to the Abernathy Cemetery, c/o First State Bank, Box 150, Abernathy, TX 79311. abellfuneralhome.com
