Memorial services for Georgia Miriam Bartlett, age 91, of Sweetwater, Texas, will be held at the 4th and Elm Church of Christ on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at 2 PM with Mike Crowley officiating. A visitation will be immediately following the memorial service. There will also be a visitation at 1:00 P.M. Friday, October 2, 2015 at Abernathy Church of Christ. Cremation arrangements are with McCoy Funeral Home, Sweetwater, TX.

Georgia passed away on September 29, 2015. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank L. Bartlett, Sr. in 2008; her grandson Cody Bartlett in 1995; her parents; and her two sisters, Marguerie Jones and Muriel Coppage.

Georgia was born on June 17, 1924 in Hollis, Oklahoma, to Silas and Virginia Ione Holleman. She married Frank L. Bartlett on May 31, 1946 and graduated from Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor of Science degree. She taught elementary and high school students for 30 years in Oklahoma and Texas.

Frank and Georgia spent time blessing the communities of Cyril and El Reno, Oklahoma, before moving to Abernathy, TX in 1959 where they lived until Frank’s death in 2008. They also enjoyed spending time in their homes in Cloudcroft, New Mexico and London, Texas. Georgia continued living in Abernathy until moving to Sweetwater in 2010 to enjoy being closer to her family.

Georgia was a member of Kappa Delta Pi Education Sorority and Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society. She is listed in Notable Women of Texas for her contribution to her community and state. Georgia wrote 11 floral painting technique books, ten of which were published and marketed nationally and internationally by Scheewe Publications. Texas Tech University PBS filmed and televised a 13 week series with Georgia teaching her floral painting technique. The series aired all over the United States. TTU also presented Georgia the “Lifelong Learning Advancement Award in 1992. She traveled extensively teaching painting classes in Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Alabama, Tennessee, Oregon and Alaska.

Georgia was a faithful member of the Church of Christ. Some of her earliest memories were of worshipping at the No.2 Church of Christ, west of Hollis, Oklahoma. She was steadfast in her walk with Christ, always looking for ways to serve others. She especially loved to entertain and was continually planning her next event and special ways to decorate the table and present the food.

Survivors include her son, Frank Bartlett, Jr and wife, Kay of Midland, Texas; a daughter, Virginia Lynne Weaver and husband Eddie of Sweetwater, Texas; and six grandchildren, Andrew Bartlett and wife Kali, Allyson Bartlett Munoz and husband Rudy, Josh Bartlett and wife Mitci, all of Midland; Matt Weaver and wife Brittany, Heidi Weaver Schlemmer and husband Scott, (all of Sweetwater) and Jace Weaver and wife Andromache of Houston; and 15 great-grandchildren, Mabry, Marly, and Maryn Weaver; Eden, Bryn, and Jett Schlemmer; Jenson Weaver; Cody, Annie and Maddy Munoz, Aubrey, Brennen, Sloan, Blu Madison Bartlett and Brooks Bartlett. These “greats” brought many moments of laughter and entertainment to BoBo. She definitely showed them how to have fun and be a Christian in all aspects of their lives. Each one of them blessed her life as well as being blessed by her.
