Colorado City - Mr. Ather Ellis, age 82, of Colorado City, died Thursday morning in a local care center. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the 22nd & Austin St. Church of Christ with Royce Clay officiating. Burial will follow in the Dunn Cemetery under the direction of Kiker-Seale Funeral Home.
Mr. Ellis was born May 30, 1925, in Dunn to Jackson and Bertha Chandler Ellis and had been a lifelong resident of Scurry and Mitchell Counties. He was a veteran of the US Army during WWII and was awarded a Purple Heart for injuries received in action on Okinawa. He married Mary Louise Piehl on December 5, 1948, in Snyder. He was a farmer and worked in oil related industries. He attended and graduated from Abilene Christian University in 1952. In 1963 & 1964, he and Mary did mission work for Exodus Bayshore Long Island in New York. He was a life time member of the Disable American Veterans.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellis of Colorado City; 2 sons: Bill (and wife, Fay) Ellis of Colorado City and Jack (and wife, Lisa) Ellis of El Paso; a sister, Julie Fox of Dunn; 2 brothers; Buck Ellis of Big Spring and Wayne Ellis of Tyler; 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Marilyn Chinn and 3 brothers Othal Ellis, J. P. Ellis and Jeff Ellis
