Services for Dorotha Rae McDaniel Deering, 83, of Abernathy, TX, were held at 10:00 am Saturday, December 6, 2003, in the Abernathy First Baptist Church with Rev. John Lowrie, officiating. Burial followed in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy, TX. Mrs. Deering died Wednesday, December 3, 2003 in Hale Center, TX.

She was born on September 6, 1920 in the Snyder, TX area to Charley and Lena McDaniel. She married Lowery Deering October 17, 1936 in Plainview, TX. He preceded her in death on April 20, 1994. They moved to Abernathy in 1948 where she was a co-owner of Abernathy Floral in the 1950's and 1960's. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene and had been active in the Order of the Eastern Star. Her life was an example of humility and revolved lovingly around her family.

She is survived by 2 sons, Billy Mack Deering of Kingman, AZ, and Lowery Charles Deering of Abilene, TX. 2 daughters, Jerry Nell Presley and Susie Ellis both of Abernathy, TX. 1 sister, Mona Donahoo of Henderson, TX. 12 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be sent to Hospice or to the First Baptist Church, Building Fund, 411 - 7th Street, Abernathy, TX 79311.
