Graveside services for Ara "Tootsie" Faulkenberry, 87, of Abernathy, TX, were held at 11:00 am Wednesday, December 26, 2007, in the Abernathy Cemetery with Rev. Jerry Don Cheshire officiating. The family received friends at Abell Funeral Home Wednesday morning from 9:30 am until 10:45 am. Services were under the direction of Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy, TX. Mrs. Faulkenberry died Sunday, December 23, 2007, in Lubbock, TX.

She was born on April 20, 1920 and married John Cecil Faulkenberry March 15, 1944 in Visalia, CA. He preceded her in death May 28, 2004. She was raised in Abernathy and they moved their family to Denver City, TX in 1952 and to Seagraves, TX in 1953 where they lived until returning to Abernathy in 1984. She was very involved in the PTA when her children were younger. She was a member of the Abernathy First United Methodist Church.

She is survived by a son, Johny "Bo" Faulkenberry and his wife June of Flint, TX, a daughter, Cynie Hopkins and her husband Leland of Chilicothe, TX, 5 grandchildren, Ryan and Clay Faulkenberry, D'Aun Pakulak, Leah Bradley and Christy Tabor, 12 great grandchildren and a sister, Burnie Hardin of Abernathy, TX.

Funeral services for John Cecil Faulkenberry, 85, of Abernathy, TX, were held at 2:00 pm Sunday, May 30, 2004, in the Abernathy First United Methodist Church with Rev. Jerry Don Cheshire, pastor, officiating. Military Graveside Honors were held in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy, TX. Mr. Faulkenberry died Friday, May 28, 2004, in Lubbock, TX.

He was born November 6, 1918 in Lane, OK. He served in the United States Army during WWII in the 1st Cavalry Division of the 5th Cavalry. He married Tootsie Curry in Visalia, CA, March 15, 1944. He moved to Abernathy in 1985 after living many years in Seagraves, TX, where he was employed with Southwestern Public Service. While living in Seagraves, he was active in city government. He was a member of the Abernathy First United Methodist Church, American Legion and the VFW.

He is survived by his wife, Tootsie Faulkenberry of Abernathy, TX, one son, Johny "Bo" Curry and his wife June of Flint, TX, one daughter, Cynie Hopkins and her husband Leland of Chillicothe, TX. One brother, Jessie Faulkenberry of Texas, 3 sisters, Alene Lowe and Syble Sanders both of Oklahoma and Audrey Bradford of California. Five grandchildren, Ryan Faulkenberry, Clay Faulkenberry, D'Aun Pakulak, Leah Bradley and Christy Tabor, and 10 great grandchildren.
