Rosary for Israel Garza, 72, of Abernathy, TX was recited at 7:30 pm Monday, December 30, 2002, in the St. Isidore Catholic Church. Rev. Arnold Bravo, pastor, officiated. Funeral Mass was held at 3:00 pm Tuesday, December 31, 2002, in St. Isidore Catholic Church with Rev. Arnold Bravo officiating. Burial followed in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy, TX. Mr. Garza died on Sunday, December 29, 2002, in Lubbock, TX.
He was born on April 9, 1930 in La Copita, TX. He married Janie Mansanales on December 17, 1955 in Lubbock, TX. He was a United States Veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict. They moved to Abernathy in 1956 and he farmed and worked for Wolf Irrigation until retiring in 2000. He was one of the founding members of St. Isidore Catholic Church and was a member of the Sacred Heart and the Crusillistas.
Survivors; wife, Janie Garza of Abernathy, TX. 2 sons, Israel Garza, Jr. of Lewisville, TX, and Victor Garza of Odessa, TX. 2 daughters, Lisa Garza of Denver, CO, and Susann Romero of Clovis, NM. 2 brothers, Noe Garza of Santa Elena, TX and Antonio Garza of Tupoli, TX. 3 sisters, Isabel Tiherina of Alice, TX and Elida Garcia and Maria Robio both of Beeville, TX. 5 grandchildren
The family suggests memorials be sent to the Abernathy Cemetery Assoc. c/o First State Bank, 402 9th Street, Abernathy, TX 79311 or to St. Isidore Catholic Church, 17819 N. IH 27, Abernathy, TX 79311.
