Collingsworth County,
Texas

April 1, 1861 - February 28, 1930

*Obituary
J. H. Kelso, one of Collingsworth County's best known and most esteemed farmers, died at his home near Wellington shortly after three o'clock Friday afternoon, following an illness of short duration. Although Mr. Kelso had been in poor health for several months, he had been critically ill only a short while preceding his death, which came as a surprise and great shock to his many friends over the county. The cause of his death was assigned by attending physicians to stomach trouble.

Mr. Kelso was 69 years of age, having been born April 1, 1861, in Tennessee. He had resided in this county for a number of years, and was regarded as one of Collingsworth's most progressive farmers.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, March 1, at 2:30 p. m. from the First Methodist Church in Wellington, with Rev. Clement and Rev. Bowen officiating. A large number of his friends gathered at the church to pay their last respects to the esteemed man. Interment was made in the Wellington cemetery with Ray Goodson in charge of burial arrangements.

Mr. Kelso is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter, who are J. H. Kelso, Jr., L. I. Kelso, both of Wellington, and Mrs. D. D. Dillingham of Abilene, all of whom were present at the family home when death occurred.
