*Obituary for Anna
Anna Mae Puett Johnston left this world for heaven and her next adventure on November 10, 2012.

Mae was born to Lottie Mae Martin Puett and William Oliver Puett on May 17, 1916 in Dozier, Texas. Mae lived a full and feisty life of 96 years! As the daughter of a schoolteacher, education was highly valued in her family. She graduated from Wheeler High School in Wheeler, Texas and from Texas Technological College in the late 1930's in a time when not many women held degrees. After graduation, she took a job teaching school in Abernathy, Texas. It was there she met the love of her life, Andrew Thomas Johnston, Jr. and they married on July 14, 1940.

She was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband, Tom, who passed away on December 7, 1976. It brings a smile to our faces to think of their joyous reunion at Heaven's gate!

Mae is survived by her daughter, Anita Johnston Kleinert and son-in-law, Johnny Kleinert; two granddaughters, Kathryn Paige Hawkins (Matt) and Camryn Leigh Kleinert all of Austin, Texas; sister Orveta Persons of Lubbock, Texas as well as several nieces and nephews. Living in Abernathy for over 70 years, Mae forged a life rich in friends and service to her community. A natural athlete herself, she was an avid supporter and coach of girls sports teams. She was a loyal fan of the Abernathy Antelopes and the Lady Raiders of Texas Tech University. Mae was still attending athletic games and events of Abernathy High School until she moved to Austin in November 2011. Mae had an active and vibrant life participating in numerous community events and clubs. She was an avid bridge player and a faithful member of the First Baptist Church-Abernathy and her Sunday school class. Following the death of her husband, Mae went back to Texas Tech University and received an additional teaching certification. She then returned to teach at the High School and serve as the Cheerleader Sponsor. Always on the go, Mae loved to travel, visiting all 50 states and several other countries. But her favorite activity of all was being "Nano" to her two beautiful granddaughters.

A visitation will be held Thursday, November 15th from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Abell Funeral Home in Abernathy. Following a private burial, a celebration of her life will be held at First Baptist Church-Abernathy on Friday, November 16th at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Mike O'Donnell of Abernathy and Reverend Gordon Smith of Horseshoe Bay officiating. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Moorehead- Hardin Scholarship Fund, 1202 2nd Street, Abernathy, Texas 79311, Abernathy Cemetery Fund, P. O. Drawer 150, Abernathy, TX 79311 or the charity of your choice.
