Graveside services for Porter Kemp, 84, of Abernathy, TX, will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, July 13, 2019, in the Abernathy Cemetery with Rev. Bill Parmer officiating. Family will receive friends from 6:00- 7:30 pm Friday, July 12th. Services are under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy.

Mr. Kemp died Wednesday, July 10, 2019, in Lubbock, TX.

He was born August 16, 1934 in Gainesville, TX to Eugene Kemp, Sr. and Vessie Geneva (Pierson) Kemp. He married Mary Haney August 7, 1954, in Lubbock. He served his country in the National Guard from 1955 to 1956. Porter loved his family, sports, especially tennis, and fishing. He built houses and countertops. He never met a stranger.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Kemp, July 12, 2017, and his siblings, Troy Lee Kemp, Eugene Kemp, Jr, Toy Wanda Holman, Mary Joe Kemp, Linda Jane Cozart and a half-sister, Imogene DeBord.

He is survived by his daughter, Mary Etta Hartless and husband Jerry of Abernathy, 3 grandsons, Chuck Hartless and wife Heidi, Robert Hartless and partner Bryan Cervantes and Sebastian Hartless, 3 step grandsons, James Arevalo, Bretan Hartless and Albert Roman, 2 great granddaughters, Reagan and Ashton Hartless and 2 brothers, Wayne Kemp of Lubbock and Robert Kemp of Abernathy.
