Services for Rene Lopez, 60, of Abernathy, Texas will be held at 7:00 pm Friday, November 1, 2013 in the Iglesia Bautista Del Carpentiro, 14th and Ave. E, Abernathy, with Rev. Fernando Flores, pastor officiating. Graveside services will be held Saturday, November 2, 2013, at 10:00 am in the Abernathy Cemetery with Fernando Flores, officiating. Services are under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy, Texas. Rene died Wednesday, October 30, 2013 in Lubbock, Texas.

He was born on January 12, 1953 in Rio Grande City, Texas to Trinidad & Paula (Montalvo) Lopez. Rene married Maria Delrosario Antunez on June 10, 1975 in Rio Grande City. They moved to the Abernathy area over 30 years ago and were active in the farming community. Rene loved fishing, camping, and the outdoors. He especially loved his grandchildren and would have done anything for them.

He is survived by his wife, Maria Lopez of Abernathy, Texas, six children, Noel (Melissa) Lopez, Nancy (Joe) Guadalcasar, Wendy (Julian) Natal, Jennifer Lopez, Juan Thomas Lopez, and Rene Adrian Lopez, all of Abernathy, Texas, his mother, Paula Montalvo-Lopez of Rio Grande City, Texas, six grandchildren, Harley, Jacqueline, Seth, Marcus, Olivia, and Scarlett, and his siblings, Roel Rogelio Lopez, Zenaida Lopez, Roberto Lopez, Juan C. Lopez, Rolando Lopez, and Raquel Lopez and Raymond Lopez.
