Bobbie Burns Wheeler, 88, passed peacefully on August 28, 2010 in Eastland. Services will be held on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. in Eastland at the Daugherty Street Church of Christ. Burial will follow at Elm Cemetery in Okra, Texas. Visitation with the family will be on Monday, August 30th from 5:00-7:00 at Edwards Funeral Home in Eastland.
Bobbie Sue was born November 28, 1921 in Okra, Texas to Mr. and Mrs. P.O. Burns.
She graduated from high school in Rising Star. She attended John Tarleton Agriculture College in Stephenville. After completing her studies at Tarleton, she taught school for a year in Petite, Texas. She then attended Draughn's Business School in Abilene and after completing her studies there, she moved to Fort worth where she worked in the Engineering Department at Consolidated Vultee (now General Dynamics) during World War II. During that same time, she was a member of the Bluebonnet Brigade Division of the USO.
She married C.V. "Doc" Wheeler, Jr. in January 1949 and they had two children, Mark Alan Wheeler and Vicki Wheeler Armstrong. The family later moved to Granbury where she was a founding member of the Granbury Gardeners Garden Club and a Docent at the Granbury Opera House. She was very active in her kid's school activities.
Bobbie and Doc retired to Eastland in 1980. She was a life-long member of the Church of Christ and she and Doc were active members of the Daugherty Street Church of Christ in Eastland.
Bobbie loved working in her flower and vegetable gardens. She also loved watching and feeding the birds. She was a fabulous cook who loved sharing her recipes and her cooking. More important than any accomplishment, however, was the beauty of Bobbie's spirit. Anyone who was lucky enough to share any time with her in this life knew a soul of pure kindness and generosity. She was appreciated and loved by so many, and provided constant support through her love and her smile. She is already missed more than anyone could have ever imagined, although the positive effect she had in their lives and the joy she brought will live on forever.
She is preceded in death by her husband, C.V."Doc" Wheeler; sisters, Jeffa Lee Kitchens and Joan Smith; and her parents.
She is survived by her two loving children, Mark Wheeler and wife Cindy of Abilene; Vicki Wheeler Armstrong and husband Larry of Eastland; grandchildren, John Paul and Chase Wheeler of Abilene. Marcus Palmer of Colorado; great-granddaughters, Alexa Wheeler of Abilene and Brooke Palmer of Colorado; sister, Nell and husband Chuck Walker of Loveland, Colorado; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Special thanks to the Woodlands Assisted Living Facility, especially Kim Alderson and the wonderful folks at Lighthouse Hospice for the care they provided.
