Graveside services for Angela Faye Pope, 89, of Abernathy, TX, will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, September 2, 2017, in the Abernathy Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy, TX.
Mrs. Pope died Wednesday, August 30, 2017, in Lubbock, TX.
She was born January 28, 1928 in Borger, TX to Verdie Edward and Alice (Bayer) Cook. She married Otis Benjamin Pope, February 15, 1947 in Plains, TX. He preceded her in death October 5, 2004. The moved into the Abernathy community in 1960 from the farm, where they had lived since the early 50's.
She is survived by a son, Benny Pope and wife Sharman of Lubbock, TX and a daughter, Theresa Poage and husband Ray of Colleyville, TX, a brother; Raymond Cook and wife Jean of Longview, TX, several grandchildren and great grandchildren. www.abellfuneralhome.com

*Obituary for Otis
Services for Otis Pope, 81, of Abernathy, TX, were held at 2:00 pm Friday, October 8, 2004, in the Abernathy First Baptist Church with Rev. Joel Perez, officiating. Burial followed in the Abernathy Cemetery. Mr. Pope died at his home Tuesday, October 5, 2004.

He was born March 20, 1923 in Hillsboro, TX. He moved to the Abernathy area with his family at age two. He served in the United States Army Air Corps from 1943 until 1946. He served as part of the 101st Airborn and was highly decorated; 3 bronze stars, good conduct medal, victory ribbon, and 4 overseas service bars. He served in the Battle of Ardennes, Rhineland, Normandy, the Battle of the Bulge and several covert operations.

He married Angela Faye Cook February 15, 1947 in Plains, TX. He accepted the Lord at a Billy Graham Crusade in Lubbock, TX in 1975.

He is survived by his wife, Angela Faye Pope of Abernathy, TX, a son, Bennie Pope and his wife Sharman of Lubbock, TX, a daughter, Theresa Poage and her husband Ray Mac of Colleyville, TX, six grandchildren, and one great granddaughter. The family suggests memorials be sent to Vista Care Hospice, 4418 Olton Rd, Plainview, TX 79072 or to a favorite charity. Arrangements are under the direction of Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy, TX. www.abellfuneralhome.com
