Services for Truman E. Richerson, 79, of Abernathy, TX, were held at 2:00 pm Friday, April 1, 2011, in the First Baptist Church. Burial followed in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy, TX. Mr. Richerson died Sunday, March 27, 2011, in Lubbock, TX.

He was born November 14, 1931 to Robert Roy Richerson and Mary Ellen (Kemp) Richerson, one-mile East of the schoolhouse at Shallowater, TX. His family moved to the Caldwell Community then in June of 1935 they moved to Abernathy. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War as an Instructor in Mechanics school at Sheppard AFB, TX. After returning to Abernathy, he had the opportunity to join the Abernathy Volunteer Fire Department and served more than 26 years. He was the Civil Defense Director for Abernathy and was instrumental in obtaining and installing the Abernathy storm warning sirens. He was the first Abernathy Fire Marshal, being appointed by the City Council. On August 9, 1957 he married Sharon Lee Humphrey. They raised a family of 4 sons, who provided them with 12 grandchildren. Truman was a member of the Abernathy Masonic Lodge # 1142, the American Legion and the First Baptist Church. He worked in various parts of the oil industry for over 38 years.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon of Abernathy, TX, 4 sons, Roy of Abernathy, TX, Lee of Sequin, TX, Tom and his wife Patricia and Danny and his wife Audra all of Abernathy, TX and his 12 grandchildren. www.abellfuneralhome.com
