Ruth Helen Greenhill Rieken died November 4, 2007 in Lubbock, Texas. She is survived by her daughter, Jeri Lyn Rieken of Lubbock, and two grandchildren, Amy Lyn Haggard of New Deal and Justin Chad Haggard of Houston. She has two great-grandchildren, Benjamin Eli and Gabriel Anthony Haggard of Houston.

Ruth Helen was born in Lubbock County on March 14, 1920. She attended Lubbock High School and graduated from New Deal High School. She married Tony H. Rieken on January 24, 1937 and they were married for 61 years before Tony's death July 1, 1998. They farmed and ranched in the New Deal area for more than 60 years. Ruth Helen's joyful spirit and strong character were inspirations to all who knew her. Active in the New Deal Church of Christ, Ruth Helen taught Bible classes and served her community in many roles. She led Girl Scout and Brownie troops, was a member of the New Deal Home Demonstration Club and served with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program at Texas Tech University. Over the years she worked at Dunlaps and Hempill-Wells in Lubbock and as a beautician in New Deal. In retirement she and Tony enjoyed traveling, especially in Colorado with their grandchildren, and spending time in their cabin in Ruidoso, New Mexico.

She is preceded in death by her husband Tony Rieken, parents Alonzo Earnest Greenhill and Artie Metia Collier Greenhill , and her brother Horace Lee Greenhill. Services were held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, November 7 at Abell Funeral Home in Abernathy. Burial followed in the Abernathy Cemetery In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made to the Lubbock Children's Home. www.abellfuneralhome.com
