Services for Bill Scott, 66, of Abernathy will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13, 2006, in the Abernathy First Baptist Church with Rev. John Lowrie officiating. Burial will follow in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy.

Mr. Scott died Friday, Feb. 10, 2006, in Lubbock.

He was born May 30, 1939 in Plainview, and married Linda Mull, Dec. 31, 1960 in Plainview. He served in the US Army as military police from 1957 until 1960 in Germany.He was employed by SPS, beginning as a lineman and ending as a local manager at retirement. He had lived in Springlake-Earth and Dimmitt prior to moving to Abernathy in 1977.

Mr. Scott was a member of the Abernathy Lions Club, hamber of Commerce, Industrial Board, served as Fire Chief and Assistant Chief on the Abernathy Volunteer Fire Department, and was a Master Mason and Past Master in the Abernathy Lodge # 1142. He was a member of the Abernathy First Baptist Church and also a "church builder" for the Texas Baptist Men's Association, and was selected as Citizen of the Year in 1993.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Linda Scott of Abernathy; a son, Bryan Scott and wife Rebecca of New Deal; three daughters, Bilinda Prater and husband Robert, Beth Harkey and husband Curtis all of Abernathy and Barbie Pope and husband Del Ray of Pilot Point; a brother, Richard Scott and wife Evelyn of Plainview; and nine grandchildren, Spencer Scott, Jordan Prater, Griffin Prater, Saralynn Prater, Morgan Harkey, Luke Harkey, Shannon Harkey, Brayson Pope and Maddye Pope.

The family suggests memorials be sent to the First Baptist Church, Parking Lot Fund, 411 7th Street, Abernathy, TX" 79311. Source: Abell Funeral Home.
