Harris Roy Scott, 79, of Abernathy, Texas, passed away on March 14, 2013, in Lubbock, Texas. Services will be held Monday, March 18, 2013, at 3:30 p.m. in Abernathy First Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike O'Donnell officiating. Burial will be in Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy. The family will receive friends at Abell Funeral Home today from 4 until 5 p.m.

Harris was born to William Allen and Ada Mae Scott on April 26, 1933, in Anson, Texas. He graduated from Anson High School and joined the U.S. Army, proudly serving his country while stationed in Japan from 1953 to 1955. Following his service to our country, he attended Texas Tech. He worked in auto parts most of his adult life and held the position of parts manager at Pioneer Lincoln-Mercury at the time of his retirement in 2001. He was recognized by Ford Motor Co. for outstanding leadership in customer service. He was a longtime member of Abernathy First Baptist Church, where he married his wife, Geneva Stallings, on Feb. 2, 1958. Harris' love of family is reflected in the poetry he wrote and in his research into family genealogy.

Preceding him in death were brothers, Theron A. Scott and Lloyd O. Scott; brothers-in-law, Bob Gates, Lenoy Stallings and Floyd Stubbs; and sisters-in-law, Jimmie Scott and Christine Scott. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Geneva Scott of Abernathy; son, David and wife Carrie of Petersburg, Texas; granddaughter, Brittany Scott Murphy and husband Shadd of Lubbock, Texas; grandson, Gasten Scott of Petersburg; and two great-grandchildren, Fallon and Slade Murphy of Lubbock. Also surviving are three brothers, Robert E. Scott of Smithville, Texas, Frank Scott and Mack Scott, both of Amarillo, Texas, and two sisters, Rose Stubbs of Abilene, Texas, and Margaret Scott of Amarillo, Texas. Other survivors include a brother-in-law, Charlie Stallings, and two sisters-in-law, Nada Gates and Tommye Ruth Stallings.

The family suggests memorials be sent to Abernathy First Baptist Church, Boys' Ranch, Gideons, or a favorite charity.
