Graveside services for Jo Ann Brown Shields, 72, of Andrews, TX, were held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, May 4, 2004, in the Abernathy Cemetery with Rev. Jerry Don Cheshire, pastor of the Abernathy First United Methodist Church, officiating. Services were under the direction of Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy. Ms. Shields died Saturday, May 1, 2004, in Andrew, TX.

She was born July 13, 1931 in Abernathy to Thomas Ottie Brown and Blanche Mock Brown. She was a graduate of Abernathy High School and in 1952 she graduated from Texas Tech University. She married Kenneth Dale Shields, and he preceded her in death in 1982. She taught school in Andrews, TX for 43 years, retiring in 1992.

She was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Ormand Kenneth Brown, Joe Tom Brown and James Brown. She is survived by a sister, Mildred Becker and her husband William of Lubbock, TX. She is also survived by nieces and nephews, Deborah Becker, Linda Heathington, Martha Brown, Jana Brown, Robert Brown and Joe Tom "Butch" Brown and a great and good friend, Mona G. Tinsley of Andrews, TX. The family suggests memorials be sent to the American Cancer Society or to the American Heart Association. www.abellfuneralhome.com
