Services for John W. Shropshire, 78, of New Deal, TX, will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, January 2, 2014 in the New Deal First Baptist Church. Rev. Danny Jackson, Jay Donoho and Rev. Tim Winn will officiate. Burial will follow in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy, TX. The family will gather at Abell Funeral Home, Wednesday, January 1, 2014 from 6:00 pm until 7:30 pm Mr. Shropshire died at his home in New Deal, TX, Monday, December 30, 2013.

He was born May 13, 1935 in Ft. Worth, TX to Floyd Handley and Lois Hazel Shropshire. He married Peggy Atkinson, June 25, 1955 in New Deal. He graduated from New Deal High School in 1953 and worked for Conley-Lott Nichols Machinery, serving as shop foreman prior to opening Shropshire Machine Service in New Deal in the early 1970's. He retired in the early 1980's. He had been a member of the New Deal First Baptist Church since he was a young boy, and loved woodworking, fishing and hunting.

He is survived by his wife Peggy of New Deal, a son, Kerry Shropshire and wife Diana of Goldthwaite, TX, one daughter Vanessa Lee of New Deal, 3 grandchildren, Trajina Russell, Cody Shropshire and Katelin Shropshire, 2 great grandchildren, Emily and Cade Russell, 3 brothers, Robert, Eugene and Charles, and a sister Lillian Ballenger all of New Deal.

The family suggests memorials be sent to the Legacy of Faith Building at First Baptist Church, P. O. Box 237, New Deal, TX 79350.
