Services for M. Dale Thickstun, 74, of Abernathy, were held at 2:00 pm Monday, December 17, 2001, in the First United Methodist Church, Abernathy, Tx., with Rev. Larry Bass, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy, Tx. Mr. Thickstun died Friday, December 14, 2001, in Covenant Medical Center, Lubbock, Tx.

He was born in Brown County, Indiana on February 18, 1927. He was raised in Nashville, Indiana and served in the United States Navy on the USS Pensacola from 1945 until 1947. Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy he moved to Texas. He married Ann Kerr on January 29, 1949 in Lubbock, Tx. In 1968 they moved from Lubbock, Texas to Abernathy. He was manager for Energas Co until his retirement in 1985. They owned and operated the Country Peddler Antiques in Abernathy since 1978. Mr. Thickstun was a member of the Yellowhouse Masonic Lodge, the Abernathy Lions Club and the Abernathy Chamber of Commerce.

Survivors; Wife, Ann Thickstun of Abernathy, Tx. 1 Son, Jon Thickstun of Corpus Christi, Tx., 1 Daughter, Juliana Peyravy of Tulsa, Ok., 4 Grandchildren, Sarah Peyravy, Johnathan Peyravy, Rebekia Peyravy and Chloe Thickstun.
