STINNETT - Funeral services for Meredith Downer, 82, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Stinnett United Methodist Church with the Rev. Landrum Medlock, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Rob Winkler, Trinity Church of Lubbock.

Mrs. Downer will lie in state at Brown's Chapel in Stinnett until service time.

Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Stinnett by Brown Funeral Directors.

She died Tuesday, Feb. 14, 1995 in St. Mary's Hospital in Lubbock.

A native of Greenbrier, Ark., she had been a Stinnett area resident for 60 years. She was a housewife, and member of Stinnett United Methodist Church.

She married Burt Downer on Dec. 1, 1929 in Greenbrier, Ark.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, JoAnn Pennington and Kay Stone, both of Lubbock; two brothers, Floyd Brannan of Conway, Ark.; and John Brannan of Lonoke Ark.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Michael Pennington, Jay Pennington, Brian Stone, Jay Klafka, and Scott Ledford.

STINNETT - Burt Downer, 88, died Sunday, April 14, 1996 in St. Mary of the Plains Hospital in Lubbock.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Stinnett First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Rob Winkler, associate pastor of Trinity Church in Lubbock, and the Rev. Landrum Medlock, pastor of Stinnett First United Methodist Church. officiating.

The family will receive visitors at Brown Memorial Chapel in Stinnett from 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday and in the Stinnett First United Methodist Church parlor from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Stinnett by Brown Funeral Directors.

A native of Erick, Okla., he had been a Stinnett resident for 60 years. He was retired from high school as a Spanish teacher and librarian in Stinnett. He was a member of Stinnett First United Methodist Church.

Mr. Downer moved from Borger to Stinnett in 1939, where he owned and operated the Stinnett Drug Store from 1939-1948. He served on the Stinnett School Board.

He graduated from Texola High School, North Texas State University in Denton, and West Texas State University in Canyon.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Meredith Brannan Downer on Feb. 14, 1995.

Survivors include two daughters, Jo Ann Pennington and Meredith Kay Stone, both of Lubbock; two sisters, Pearl Price of Amarillo; and LaNell Price of Mesa, Ariz.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Memorial may be made to the Stinnett First United Methodist Church or Stinnett Cemetery Association.
