Sam D. Russell, 79, died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, in a local hospital after a lengthy illness.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Central Christian Church with the Rev. Sterling Lentz, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Wilbarger Memorial Park under direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.
Russell was born July 26, 1921, in Crowell, a son of the late Thomas French and Gladys Louise Jobe Russell. He married Alpha Syble Mullins on Feb.7, 1941, in Altus, Okla.
A 1939 graduate of Crowell High School, he attended Draughons Business College and retired as manager of the West Texas Utilities office in Vernon after 46 years with the company. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving as a yeoman second class, and was a member of Central Christian Church and the Lions Club of Vernon.
