William R. (Bill) Goodwin, long-time resident of Hutchinson County and citizen of Stinnett, died Monday night at a motel in Houston, where he had been an out-patient at M.D. Anderson Clinic for two weeks. Death resulted from injuries received when he slipped and fell in a bathtub.

Mr. Goodwin, 70, was born in 1896 at Wortham.

His first job was on a ranch near Tulia, where he taught when not riding as a cowboy. In March 1919, he came to the Panhandle and settled in Plemons, where he took up the profession of an abstractor, moving to Stinnett in a short time. He is the former owner of Pioneer Abstract Co., Stinnett, which he started in 1912.

In 1923, Goodwin was elected County Judge, a position he held until 1929. He served Stinnett as postmaster from 1934 to 1945. He also held the post of acting clerk for the 84th Judicial District Court.

Goodwin was a member of the First Christian Church of Stinnett, and Hutchinson County American Legion Post No. 412. He was also a member of Plemons Lodge 817, A.F.&A.M.

Survivors include his wife, the former Mary Christian; two sons, Curtis and Richard; a daughter, Mrs. Annabeth Williams, all of Stinnett, and several grandchildren.

Funeral services are pending with Minton Mortuary.
