Heart Attack Is Death Cause In Cameron Swim
CAMERON, May 22 (SPL) - A heart attack and shock caused the death of Earl Armstrong Jr, 16, whose body was found in four feet of water at the municipal swimming pool here Wednesday night, Justice of the Peace Thomas Breshear ruled today after an autopsy.
The autopsy was made by Dr. Charles Phillips, pathologist of Scott and White, Temple, assisted by Dr. C. G. Swift and Dr. David Shapiro of Cameron.
Armstrong's body was discovered by Nick Nabours who was diving in to the pool. He shouted to others that the Armstrong boy, who had been missed before that time, was on the bottom of the pool. It was estimated he had been under water five to 15 minutes.
Sheriff Carl Black, fire chief for the Cameron volunteer Fire Department, brought a resuscitator which the department owns. Several members of the department worked with the boy for two hours and Dr. C. G. Swift and Dr. David Shapiro assisted but efforts to revive the victim failed.
Armstrong's brother, Terry Dean, 13, said Earl could not swim.
Funeral services are scheduled at 4 p. m. today at the Full Gospel Tabernacle here with Rev. H. M. Bowley officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Armstrong Sr. of Cameron; two brothers, Terry Dean and Donald Ray Armstrong; and one sister, Mrs. Donald Branch of Temple.
