Curtis John Oates
February 7, 1927 - December 3, 2018

Age 91 of Austin, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on December 3, 2018. He is preceded in death by his son John Charles "Jay" Oates, sister Betty Veloz, nephew Nicky Veloz, great nephew John Rogers. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Ruby Stevenson Oates, daughter Ellen Carlisle, son Jack Oates and wife Andrea, sister Martha Schaub, niece Cannon Schaub, niece Virginia Rogers, great nephew James Rogers. He was blessed with three grandchildren, BC Carlisle and wife Diamond, Colby Oates and wife Amanda, and Abbott Alice Oates, and two great-grandchildren Asher Carlisle and Addalyn Jaye Oates.

John was born in Amarillo, Texas on February 7, 1927, served in the Army during WW II, married his high school sweetheart, and moved to Austin to attend UT in 1949. John was always a self-employed man who described himself as a "retired investor" during his later years. He will be remembered by the strength he demonstrated till his last breath.

Viewing and visitation will be held on December 5 from 4-7 pm at Weed-Corley-Fish, 3125 N. Lamar in Austin. Graveside service will be on December 6 at 2:30 pm at Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Stinnett, Texas.
