Joseph Calvin Shields, 61, of Amarillo died Friday, Feb. 19, 2011.

Rosary will be said at 6 p.m. today in Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church with the Rev Michael Caldwell as celebrant. Burial will be at 2 p.m. in Stinnett Cemetery in Stinnett. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St.

Joe graduated from Stinnett High School in 1967. He attended West Texas State University for two years. He married Chris in 1970. He made his home in Amarillo for 39 years after serving his country in the Army. He made his living in the flooring industry.

Joe loved golfing, sports, and was an avid Texas Longhorn fan. He was a member of St. Thomas Church. His family was most important and he was a loving husband, father, brother, son and grandfather.

He is preceded in death by his father, Earl P Shields; and a brother, Mike Shields.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Lisa Shields Reed and husband Robert of Amarillo; a son, Mike Shields and wife Jennifer of New Braunfels; a sister, Ann Shields Hamilton and husband Steve of Magnolia; his mother, Glennis Shields of Amarillo; and four grandchildren, Baileigh Shields, Camden Shields, Weston Shields and Braxton Reed.

The family suggests memorials be to Harrington Cancer Center, 1500 Wallace Blvd., Amarillo, TX 79106-1794; or Odyssey Hospice, 6900 W. Interstate 40, Suite 150, Amarillo, TX 79106
