STINNETT - Howard S. Spear, 73, of Stinnett, died Thursday at 1:45 a.m. in Amarillo.

He lived in Hutchinson County for 14 years, moving from Ft. Stockton. He was retired from Norther Natural Gas Co. in 1971.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Stinnett and of the Masonic Lodge 1022 of Ft. Stockton.

He was a retired Lt. Col. of the US Army and a veteran of World War I.

He married Marie Dettle in Liberal, Kansas.

He is survived by one daughter, Susan Spear of Amarillo; one son, Phillip Lee Spear of Santa Anna, Calif.; and three granddaughters.

Services are pending with Alexander Funeral Directors of Borgr [sic].

Military graveside services for Howard Spear, 73, were scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Friday at Sunset Memorial Cemetery.

Austill Burrus, layminister of First United Methodist Church, officiated.

Military rites were under the direction of Ft. Hood Army Base. There were 19 pall bearers.

Burial was under the direction of Alexander Funeral Home of Stinnett.

He is survived by one daughter, Susan Spear of Amarillo; oneson [sic], Phillip Lee Spear of Santa Anna, Calif.; and three granddaughters.
