HOUSTON - Maudie Marie Holt Marshall, 89, died Thursday, June 12, 1997.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Holt Cemetery in Hutchinson County. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. June 21 in the Chapel of First Presbyterian Church in Houston with the Rev. Asa Hunt officiating. Arrangements are by George H. Lewis & Sons Funeral Directors.

Mrs. Marshall was born in the Holt community of Hutchinson County. She attended the Holt school until transferring to Goodwell High School, which was a part of Goodwell A&M College at Goodwell, Okla.

She graduated from Spearman High School in 1926. She attended the University of Texas from 1926 to 1927 and West Texas University at Canyon from 1927 to 1929. In 1929 she returned to the University of Texas and received a bachelor's degree in home economics in 1931.

At West Texas University, Mrs. Marshall was a member of Kappa Omnicron Phi. At the University of Texas, she was a member of Phi Mu.

After graduating, she was employed as a home demonstration agent with the Texas Extension Service at Texas A&M University. She worked in Grimes County from 1932 to 1934, when she transferred to Harris County and became an assistant home demonstration agent working with 4-H Club girls.

She resigned her position and married Arch Bruce Marshall in 1942. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Marshall was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Houston and spent two years as circle chairman and one year in charge of Joy Gift. She later devoted 20 years to genealogical research. She had published four family history books.

She was a member of Chapter VIII, the Colonial Dames of America, the Samuel Sorrell Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, National Society of Magna Carta Dames, the San Jacinto Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas and the Robert E. Lee Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.

Mrs. Marshall also was a member of the Houston Colony Society of Mayflower Descendants in the state of Texas.

Survivors include four brothers, O.C. Holt of Amarillo, Dr. Joseph Newton of Fort Worth, and Fred Holt and Nolan Holt, both of Spearman; and a sister, Myrle May Holt of Spearman.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home in Spearman.

The family requests memorials be to the Holt Cemetery Association c/o Mary Fern Terry, 906 S. Bernice, Spearman, Texas 79081.
