John W. Neilson, 45, Hutchinson County Agriculture Agent the past 12 years, died around 3:20 p.m., Wednesday while visiting his brother in Waco. At the time of his death Neilson was enroute to his Stinnett home. Recovering from a recent illness, he had been released from a hospital in Weslaco, Texas.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Friday in the Stinnett high school. Truman Teel, Church of Christ minister, will officiate. Burial will be in the Holt Cemetery.

Neilson, popular among North Plains farmers and ranchers, became agriculture agent for Hutchinson County in 1943. He had been in county agent work since 1938, having been assigned to Moore and Deaf Smith counties and Texarkana. He moved from Moore County to Stinnett in 1943.

The County agent was born May 22, 1909 near Holt Community in Hutchinson County. He was educated in public schools at Perryton and was a graduate of Texas A & M College. Neilson was a member of the Stinnett Church of Christ.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. J.W. Neilson of Stinnett; two sons, Phil W. and John A. Neilson, both of Stinnett; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Neilson of Spearman; two brothers, Milton Neilson of Los Angeles, Calif., and Robert of Waco; and one sister, Mrs. Phil Cartwright of Perryton.

Active pallbearers include Jay Darnell, Dean Dugan, Clark Delozier, Bob Joiner, Willard Gilley, and Leslie Rush.

Honorary pallbearers include Allison Williams, Knox Parr, Judge Norman Coffee, Burl Gray, Lee Richardson, Jack Roberts, Dave Moore and Maurice Bentley.
