SPEARMAN - Earl Marshall Riley, 84, died Sunday, Aug. 18, 1996.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Spearman Church of Christ with Arnis Pape, minister, officiating. Burial will be in Holt Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle, in Amarillo.

Mr. Riley was born near the town site of Spearman and was one of the few original residents of Spearman. He was a lifelong resident of Spearman and Hansford County.

He married Hollie B. Brown in 1933. She died in 1993. He also was preceded in death by a son, Barton Riley, in 1976.

He was a farmer and rancher in the Texas Panhandle area. He was active in the community, school, church and civic life in Spearman and the area. He was a member of the Flying Farmers Organization and the Sons of the American Revolution.

In the 1950s, he and other pioneers of Hansford County founded the Rolling Plains Wagon Train. He served as wagonmaster until the time of his death. The organization toured in covered wagons through many parts of Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico, being featured in parades and celebrations. They were invited by the governor of Oklahoma to be participants of the dedication ceremonies of the Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City. Mr. Riley, as wagonmaster, led the wagon train in Oklahoma City.

Survivors include a daughter, Anne Riley Northcutt of Amarillo; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The body will be available for viewing until 8 p.m. tonight at Boxwell Brothers in Amarillo and from 10 a.m. until service time at the Spearman Church of Christ.

The family will be at 7601 Sleepy Hollow in Amarillo.

Hollie Brewer Brown Riley, 81, of Spearman, died Sunday, July 4, 1993.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Spearman Church of Christ, with Arnis Pape, minister, officiating. Burial will be in Holt Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors of Amarillo.

Mrs. Riley was born in Spearman and was a lifelong resident. She married Earl M. Riley in 1933. They were in the farming business and were active in church, school, civic and community affairs. She was a 1931 graduate of Spearman High School and was instrumental in organizing the annual 1931 class reunion. In 1947, she became the first woman in Hansford County to become a licensed pilot. In 1961, Mrs. Riley and her husband organized the Rolling Plains Wagon Train and made trips in covered wagons that been used by their families. She had been a member of the Dahlia Flower Club and other flower clubs since 1933. She was a member of the Spearman Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by a son, Barton G. Riley, in 1976.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Anne Riley Northcutt of Amarillo; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The body will be available for viewing at the Church of Christ in Spearman from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today.
