*Obituary for Sam
Funeral services for Sam Bryan, killed in an automobile accident yesterday afternoon on the Borger-Stinnett Highway, have been set for tomorrow, 2:30 p.m., in the Stinnett High School Auditorium, with Rev. James Todd, pastor of the Stinnett First Christian Church, officiating.

Bryan, pioneer Hutchinson County resident, was being taken to Borger in an automobile driven by his son Milton, with Bryan's brother, Burt, riding with them. Their car was involved in a head-on collision with a pick-up truck driven by Dick Swan of Spearman.

Burt Bryan, resting in North Plains Hospital, was described by hospital officials this morning as "in serious condition," with a fractured right hip, fractured right arm, broken ribs and head injuries. Milton, with several fractured ribs and bruises, is believed not to be in serious condition.

Dick Swan, driver of the pickup, received only cuts about the head and face, and was "getting along fairly well" this morning.

Hutchinson County Sheriff Department officers said that the accident happened at 3:20 p.m. about three miles south of Stinnett, on the new Stinnett-Borger Highway.

Only one side of the four-lane highway was open in the area of the accident, as the road is under construction, with traffic using two of the four lanes at the time of the wreck.

The Bryan car, a 1950 Mercury was hit when Swan driving a 1945 Chevrolet pickup, pulled out from behind a truck and into the path of the Bryan vehicle, according to members of the Sheriff's Department.

Investigation of the smash-up is continuing under both the Sheriff's Department and the Highway Patrol.

Bryan has been a farmer and in the oil business in Hutchinson County since 1907.

As owner of a small hotel and a deacon of the First Christian Church in Stinnett, he was well-known and respected for years by all the residents of that community.

Bryan is survived by his wife, Maude, one son, Milton, 41, one daughter, Mrs. Emma Eva Anglin of Dumas, a sister, Mrs. Bessie Jameson of San Francisco, and two brothers, Burt and Arch, both of Stinnett.

Pallbearers include Cot Bates, Hugh Anderson, Ernest Tindall, Jake Early, Tom Groves, Buck Griffin, Ben Foster, and Bill Goodwin.

Burial will be in Lieb Cemetery, under the direction of the Minton Funeral Home.

*Obituary for Maud
Funeral services for one of the earliest pioneers of Hutchinson County were held at 2 p.m. today in Stinnett High School auditorium.

Mrs. Maud Bryan came to Hutchinson County with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Rumans, when she was 18 years old. Prior to moving here, they lived in Panhandle, and on area ranches long before any railroads were built.

They lived in Spring Creek community and then in Plemons in 1905, where she met her husband, the late Sam Bryan. He was killed in a car accident between Stinnett and Borger in 1952.

Mrs. Bryan told many interesting stories that happened when this country was young. She often told of one experience in 1914 when her son, Milton, was three years old. She and her husband and son traveled from Plemons to Panhandle in a wagon drawn by a team of mules.

On the trip back home they barely escaped with their lives because the river was risen and the wagon went down in quicksand.

Mrs. Bryan had been a resident of Stinnett for 20 years. She was a member of the First Christian Church and past noble grand of the Plemons Order of Eastern Star.

The Rev. Pearce Burns, pastor of the First Christian Church, was assisted by Mr. Jack Burke of Phillips in the final rites.

Interment was in Lieb Cemetery under the direction of Minton Mortuary. Casketbearers were Walter Christian, Buster Christian,, Bot Bates, Bill Goodwin, Richard Groves and Ray Ownbey.
