BORGER - Jack Barbee, 88, died Sunday, May 3, 2009.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church Chapel with the Rev. Steve Taylor, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Directors.

Jack was born Thursday, Aug. 19, 1920, in Achille, Okla., to Lycurgus and Emma Mason Barbee. He was a veteran, serving from 1942 to 1945 in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.

He married Barbara Brooks on May 24, 1948. He worked for Phillips Petroleum Co. for 37 years, was a member of First Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge.

Jack married Wanda Spelce on Sept. 28, 1984, in Borger.

The family would like to give a special thanks to LeQuita Logan and BSA Hospice for their loving care of Mr. Barbee.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara, on March 1, 1983; a daughter, Connie Barbee Drew, on Jan. 12, 2006; six brothers, Elmer, Robert, Jay, Cecil, Leon and Henry Barbee; two sisters, Bertie Conrad and Ruth Barnett; and his parents.

Jack is survived by his wife, Wanda; two daughters, Barbara Tomlinson and husband Doug of Bartlesville, Okla., and Robin Laird and husband John of Houma, La.; a stepdaughter, Sabrina Pope and husband Lou of Sugar Land; a sister-in-law, Helen Barbee of Fort Worth; numerous nieces and nephews, including Don Barnett and wife June and Judy Barnett, all of Houston; four grandchildren, Jason Tomlinson and wife Ryan and Niki Tomlinson, all of Bartlesville, and Chris Laird and Rachel Laird, both of Houma; and two stepgrandchildren, Ryan Helfenbein and wife Lauren of Louisville, Ky., and Hayley Helfenbein of Sugar Land.

Honorary pall bearers will be Doug Tomlinson, John Laird, Chris Laird, Jason Tomlinson, Ryan Helfenbein and Travis Taylor.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to First Baptist Church, Zimbabwe Missions, P.O. Box 470, Borger, TX 79008; or to the Hutchinson County Library, 625 Weatherly St., Borger, TX 79007.
