Vada Louise "Babe" Black, 83, of Amarillo died Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Westlawn Memorial Park with Jerald Middaugh officiating. Arrangements are by Cox-LaGrone Funeral Home.

Vada was born Aug. 3, 1926, to R. E. and Ruth Bonner in Arlington, Kan. She went to be with her Lord on Aug. 16, 2009. She was a loving wife, mother, sister and aunt. She went to school to be an LVN and started her career July 21, 1962. She was a very dedicated and compassionate nurse who took pride in her profession. She was known for her good cooking and loved to work on crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed caring for her two dogs, Snoopy and Cissy, whom she loved very much.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Black; her parents; three brothers, Robert, Norman and Roy Bonner; two sisters, Alice Carey and Helen Meaker; and a devoted friend, Dewey Tims. The family would like to express a special thanks to Odyssey Healthcare, especially Cindy and Rachel.

Survivors include a daughter, Diann "Bebe" Bonner Barbee of Corsicana; four grandchildren, Chris, Tammy, Robin and Michael; 10 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Shields of Amarillo; two brothers, Jim Bonner and wife Jane of Amarillo and Johnny Bonner and wife Joyce of Panhandle; and several nieces and nephews, including a very special one, Pat Shields, who was her loving caretaker and friend for almost five years, along with his brother Mike.

The family suggests memorials be to Odyssey Healthcare, and the R.E. Bonner Memorial Fund for FFA at Panhandle High School.
