Obituary for Grace
Grace Miller Bradford, 816 Monroe, the only female member of Borger's American Legion Post 412, died at 3:50 a.m. today at Magic Plains Nursing Home.

Mrs. Bradford, 83, was a resident of Borger since 1928. She was born Dec. 10, 1892, in Wayland, Mo. At 16, she began nurse's training, at Graham Hospital, Keokuk, Iowa. She nursed in Iowa several years, and then joined the nurse corps of the United States Army, serving during World War I from 1917 to 1919.

She gave up active duty when she first came to Borger, but when World War II caused the recruitment of retired nurses, she became office nurse for the late Dr. Milton Kimball, serving at Casa Serena Hospital in Bunavista for over a decade.

A woman who gave service in the care of others as a result of wars, Mrs. Bradford said, in 1968, when she was honored by Post 412: "I don't believe peace will ever come by the work of man; it will come only from God."

Grace Bradford lived by the ideals of love, freedom, justice, honor and service.

She is survived by her husband, Tom, and her daughter, Priscilla Coryell, Canyon.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in the chapel of the First Baptist Church. The Rev. Larry Miller, associate pastor, will officiate. Interment will be at Westlawn Memorial Park, under the direction of Minton Mortuary.
