Borger News Herald - October 29, 1995

Funeral services for Weldin G. Chapman, 74, Borger, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Wesley United Methodist Church with the Rev. Newton Starnes, retired minister, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Sammie Rainey, pastor.

Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery by Minton-Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

A native of Ames, Iowa, he had been a longtime resident of Borger. He was a chemical engineer for Phillips Petroleum Company at the Copoly Plant, and a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.

Mr. Chapman received a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from Kansas State Teachers College where his father was a professor.

He was active in the community serving as past president of Gateway PTA, served in youth baseball programs in the 1960s, was a lay leader at Wesley United Methodist Church, and was also a Sunday School teacher. He was also active in Boy Scouts.

He married Ruth Strain on June 14, 1947 at New Home, Texas.

Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Dr. Kenneth Blair Chapman of Uganda, Africa; and Dr. John Raymond Chapman of Waterloo, Belgium; a daughter, Cheryl Ann Swafford of Borger; two brothers, Blair Chapman and John Chapman, both of Orange, Texas; four grandchildren, Chris Chapman, Thomas Chapman, Jamie Swafford, and Kevin Swafford.

Casketbearers will be Clarence McDaniel, Kenny Benton, Bob Werther, Pat Ryan, Rodney Rundie, and Court Winters.
