Lorene C. Childers
July 11, 1922 - June 21, 2015

Lorene Craig Childers, 92, of Borger died Sunday June 21st in Amarillo. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Thursday at Calvary Baptist Church with Jake Minton officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors. There will be a family and friends visitation at the funeral home Wednesday from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

Born prematurely in Hendrix, Oklahoma on July 11th, 1922, a mere 2.5 pounds, she entered this world a fighter and continued with that same spirit the rest of her life. As so many of her generation, she lived through the Great Depression and the Second World War, and came through it with spunk, determination, and a lot of wonderful stories.

She met her beloved husband, Jay C. Childers, in Durant, Oklahoma, on February 14th, 1947, and they were married a few months later on May 17th, 1947. Married over sixty years, Jay and Rene enjoyed spending time with their family, rooting for the Dallas Cowboys, and traveling to watch their cherished horses compete in races across New Mexico, and Arkansas.

Lorene was absolutely devoted to her family and she never met a stranger. She was eager to talk to anyone and happy to volunteer when asked. She enjoyed her many years with Home Demonstration, teaching others an array of crafts, decorating techniques, and household skills. She continued to be an avid crafter and collector her entire life. One would often find Rene browsing local antique stores and visiting with her many friends.

Her adoring family will forever miss her happy spirit, her infectious smile, her kind heart, her loving nature, and her phenomenal cooking. And they will always be thankful that God blessed them with such an amazing Wife, Mother, Grandy, and Teta.

Lorene was preceded in death by her parents Leonard Ramey and Willie Perryman Ramey, beloved husband Jay, brother Doug, and twin great grandchildren Jay and Jess Sheets.

Lorene is survived by a daughter Sharon (Richard) Platz of Amarillo; Grandson Jason (Aurora) Sheets of Borger; Grand Daughter Jessica (Heath) Maxwell of Germantown, TN; Great grandchildren Keren Sheets and Henry and Samuel Maxwell; Niece Sharia Gail (Richard) Nichols of Achille, OK; Great niece Kelli (Craig) Myracle and great- great niece Mallory Myracle of Telephone, TX; Niece Paula (Peter) Johnson and family of Salt lake City, UT; Niece Pam (Pat) Cullen and family of North Platte NE; Nephew Kyle (Debbie) Stokes and family of The Colony, TX; Niece Mary (Gary) Jernigan and family of Tampa, FL; Niece Marty Little and family of Carrollton, TX; Niece Mona (Dan) Swofford and family of Coppell, TX; Sister- in- law Emogene Green of Laramie, WY; and her ever faithful pups Elvis and Peggy Sue.
