W. Don DeGeer, 72, of Borger, died Monday, March 10, 1997 in High Plains Baptist Hospital in Amarillo.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 12, 1997 at St. Andrew United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Purl, pastor of St. Andrew United Methodist Church, officiating.

Service will be under the direction of Brown Funeral Directors of Borger.

A native of El Dorado, Kansas, he had been a longtime Borger resident.

He was a veteran of WW II and the Korean War. He was a member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church, as well as a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Society of Petroleum Engineer A.I.M.E. He went to grade school and Jr. high at Blackwell, Okla. He graduated from high school at McPherson, Ks. in 1942. He served in WW II from 1943-1945 as a Combat Engineer and in Europe in the 95th Inf. Division in 3rd and 9th Army. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1949. He rough necked for Rowan Drilling Co. and worked as an Engineer and Roustabout for Globe Oil. He went to work for Phillips Petroleum in 1950, and in 1951 he was called to serve in the Korean War. He served for 18 months, until 1952; he then returned to Phillips Petroleum. He worked as a Production Engineer, Drilling Engineer and a Drilling Superintendent in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Kansas and Utah. He retired in September 1985 from Phillips Geothermal Co. and returned to Borger.

He married Edith Lorene on June 1, 1983 in Stinnett.

He is preceded in death by his first wife, Frances Josephine (Swenson) in 1978, a son, William Donald DeGeer III in 1972 and a sister, Aileen Rice in 1965.

Survivors include his wife, Edith Lorene (Wilson) Sissel DeGeer of Borger; two sons, Eric Neal DeGeer of Dallas, Bryan Arthur Sissel of Albuquerque, N.M.; three daughters, Lynn Iris DeGeer of Austin, Captain Diane Sue DeGeer of Las Vegas, Nevada, Aileen Ann Rios of Corpus Christi; one sister, Bonnie Priebe of Vallejo, Ca.; two grandchildren, Brittany Jo Rios and Mathew Robert Rios both of Corpus Christi.

Mr. DeGeer's body has been donated to the Texas Tech Medical Center in Lubbock.

Memorials may be made to St. Andrew United Methodist Church and First United Methodist Church.
