Funeral services for William Donald DeGeer III, 23, a former resident of Phillips who was killed Friday in a helicopter accident in Nicaragua will be held at 2 P.M. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church here.

The Rev. Jack Ellvey, pastor, will officiate and burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Borger by Minton Mortuary there.

Mr. DeGeer, the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Don DeGeer, Jr., was a graduate of Phillips High School. He enlisted in the US Army in 1969. He had received the air medal for service in Viet Nam.

Survivors include his parents, three sisters, a brother and his grandparents.

William Donald DeGeer, III, 23, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Don DeGeer, Jr., 703 Phillips Ave., in Phillips, was killed Friday in a helicopter mishap in Nicaragua, Central America, where he was employed as a civilian helicopter pilot.

DeGeer was recently discharged from the U.S. Army, where he served as a warrant officer and a helicopter pilot. He had served a year in Vietnam and was awarded the Air Medal for service in combat.

A native of Norman, Okla., he was a 1967 graduate of Phillips High School, and had attended Texas A & M and the University of Texas before enlisting in the Army.

While in high school, he had attended Boys State and was a recipient of a Phillips scholarship.

DeGeer entered the Army in October 1969 and completed basic training at Ft. Polk, La.

He was a member of the Phillips United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by three sisters, Lynn, Diane and Aileen; one brother, Eric; and paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W. D. DeGeer, Sr., of Ardmore, Okla.

Services are pending with Minton Mortuary.
