NEGRO SHOT TO DEATH BY SECOND BLACK AT GAUSE LAST SATURDAY
---------------

In an alteration on the DuBois farm, Six Mile community, near Gause, last Saturday, S. L. Lawson, colored, shot and killed A. G. Standford, another negro.
Lawson went to Gause after the killing and surrendered to Deputy Sheriff McCowen. He was given a preliminary trial by Justice of the Peace Haddox and later released on $500 bail, to await the action of the grand jury.
Lawson stated that he had previously had a fight with the dead man, who went away and came back with a shotgun. Lawson had also armed himself with a shotgun and beat the other negro to the draw.
