BORGER - Woodrow "Woody" M. Downey, 80, died Wednesday, March 26,
1997.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today in Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors
Memorial Chapel at Borger, with the Rev. David Jones, pastor of First
United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn
Memorial Park.

Mr. Downey was born in Dewey, Okla., and had been a Borger resident
since moving from Drumright, Okla., in 1972. He retired from Arco Oil
and Gas in 1981 as a gangpusher. During World War II, he served in the
Army with the First Cavalry Division's 8th Cavalry Regiment in the
Pacific Theater where he received two Purple Hearts. He was an avid
fisherman. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a
member of the VFW.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn; two sons, John Downey of Houston,
and Jim Downey of Pampa; a daughter, Janice Stanford of Fritch; two
sisters, Virginia Starkey and Lillian Foster, both of McPherson, Kan.;
six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
