An early morning collision today along Interstate 30 in Grand Prairie killed two people, both Borger residents, authorities [sic] in Dallas County said today.

Michael L. Ernest [sic], 22, of 401 Peeble Way in Arlington and Mark Brown, 19, of Borger, both died from massive head injuries when the 1976 Buick in which they were riding slammed into a legally parked automobile while west-bound on the Interstate, police said.

Ernest is the son of former city council candidate Earl Ernest [sic] while Brown is the step-son of Richard Meyer, 315 Caliche, in Borger.

Grand Prairie police said identification of Brown was not made until shortly before noon.

A spokesman for the Dallas County medical [sic] examiner's office said Brown had two driver's licenses which delayed a positive identification until investigators were able to reach members of Brown's family in Borger.

Grand Prairie police could give few details on the accident, other than to report the vehicle that Ernest and Brown struck was legally parked alongside the highway.

Authorities said the accident happened about 2:10 a.m. this morning. Both men were dead at the scene, police said.

Grand Prairie police said the crash investigation would not be completed until late this afternoon.

A spokesman at the Brown residence said Mark Brown had moved from Borger to Arlington about two weeks ago.

The spokesman said Brown and Ernest [sic] were good friends, although they were not living with each other in Arlington.

Brown graduated from Borger High School in the spring of 1985. He had served as a member of the Borger High School student council and was well known in student affairs.

Mr. Ernest [sic] had lived in Borger since 1974, coming here from Lancaster, Calif. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and had recently moved to Arlington.

He is survived by his mother, Lila Ernest [sic] of California; his father, Earl Ernest [sic] of Borger; a sister, Evelyn Newman of Borger; two brothers, John Ernest [sic] of Borger and Anthony Ernest [sic] of Arlington; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J.T. Ernest [sic] of Fritch, and Mr. and Mrs. Elliott Okins of San Diego, Calif.

Funeral arrangements for Mr. Ernest [sic] are pending with Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors in Borger.

No details regarding services for Mr. Brown were available at noon today.
