W. C. RUTLAND

A pall of gloom hovered over our community when on last Sunday afternoon the Death Angel visited in the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Rutland, taking for its toll the loving father and husband, W. C. Rutland. While his illness had covered a period of two years he changed for the worse about two weeks ago. His death was expected but was a shock to his loved ones, who were at his bedside. He was born in Alabama, Sept. 8, 1849, and came to Texas when but a boy. He had made Milam county his home for the past 50 years. He gave his heart to God at the age of 17 years and has since lived a consecrated Christian up to his departure on Sunday, March 27, at 6 p. m. o'clock. At the age of 77 years his body was tenderly laid in its last resting place in the cemetery here before a large concourse of relatives and friends.
Rev. R. E. Roberts of Rockdale, a friend of the family, conducted the funeral services at the Christian church here.
Deceased leaves many friends and relatives to mourn his loss. His widow and the following children survive: R. R. Rutland, J. B., W. C., and C. C. of Robstown; Mrs. E. C. Swartz, also of Robstown; Mrs. C. C. Scroggin, of Ballinger; Mrs. G. W. Conn and Mrs. J. R. Scroggin of Davilla, and Mrs. Barron was ill and unable to come. His sister, Mrs. G. B. McCullough of Austin and two of his granddaughters, Laura Lee and Mary Conn, of Austin were able to be with him in his last hours. The other children were also present. He leaves 21 grandchildren.
Dear friends and neighbors, your kindness and sympathy is deeply appreciated and is a healing balm to our aching hearts. May we live so that we may all meet at our journey's end - where no sickness and sorrows await us. A place is aching in your hearts that never can be healed.
Dear mother, brothers, and sisters, hush your weeping. Father is not dead, only sleeping. We love him,of so much. God loved him best and has carried him home to rest.
A loving daughter,
MRS. G. W. CONN
