*Obituary
Mary Frazier Clark departed this earthly life to be with her Heavenly Father on Saturday, October 20, 2018. Graveside service will be on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at the Rising Star Cemetery in Rising Star. A visitation with the family will be on Monday, October 22, 2018 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street.
Mary was born in Hockley County to W.G. and Mintie Frazier. She grew up on a ranch near Sundown, where she attended high school and played basketball and tennis. Mary loved the South Plains. She graduated from Abilene Christian College where her friends gave her the nickname “Mary Dot.” Mary fondly remembered arriving at ACC on a fall day in 1940. “No one had a car in those days!” she said. For three years after graduation, she taught school in Sundown and Levelland. She was the first woman to serve on the Abilene Christian University Board of Trustees. Mary truly loved Abilene Christian University and proudly wore her ACU ring with a purple and white outfit. She was a loyal and trusted friend to many people.
In 1946, she married John D. (Skeet) Clark in Sundown, Texas. Skeet and Mary moved to Rising Star in 1948. They had four children: Frazier Clark of Comanche, Bob and Marilyn Clark of Brownwood, Jack Clark of Arlington and Marilyn and Nick Coates of Abilene. After Skeet’s death in 1977, Mary moved to Abilene. She enjoyed traveling and taking her friends on many adventures.
Mary was a person who enjoyed simple things – a phone conversation with a friend, a letter from back home, and going to church. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ and supported many evangelistic efforts. Mary was named 2005 Region 4 Absentee Rancher of the Year for the State of Texas by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
One of her greatest joys was keeping in touch with many lifelong friends. She loved the annual family Easter service in Comanche county. Mary was known as a history buff regarding early settlers in the Lubbock area, recalling old stories and memories as if they happened yesterday.
Mary’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren include Dusty and Donna Jones and sons Colten and Caden of Brownwood; Bryan and Sloan Clark and sons Jackson, Cutler and Kingston of Brownwood; Wes Clark and daughters Camryn and Landi of Brownwood; Jay and Francie Clark and son JW of Brownwood; Chris and Sarah Clark of San Francisco; Carrie and Matt Vines and their children, Kinsey, Ethan and Jackson of Colleyville; Jordan and Phil Farris and daughter Maggie Dot of Weatherford; Jenna Martin of Weatherford and Jeff Martin of Abilene. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Sylvia Frazier, a nephew, Jim Frazier and nieces Rudith Drennan, Pat Maynard, Gayla Roberson, Peggy Wilson, Nancy Weissman and many great nieces and nephews that she dearly loved. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Skeet and her brother Walter Frazier.
The family would like to thank Frances Wilkins for her love and care for Mary.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
