He entered the Army Air Corps in 1943. He attained rank of staff sergeant, was a tail gunner on a B-24 and was shot down on Sept. 27, 1944, over Germany during World War II. He was held as a prisoner for 7 months. He was discharged in Sept. 1945.

Dwight Ford Galyon, 79, of Amarillo died Friday, Feb. 7, 2004.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Comanche Trail Church of Christ with Loran Harper and Jerry Klein, ministers, officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery in Borger by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St.

Mr. Galyon was born Feb. 21, 1924, in Denison, TX. He entered the Army Air Corps in 1943. He attained rank of staff sergeant, was a tail gunner on a B-24 and was shot down on Sept. 27, 1944, over Germany during World War II. He was held as a prisoner for 7 months. He was discharged in Sept. 1945 and married Margie Ann Tipton on Sept. 26, 1945.

He was employed by Phillips Petroleum Co. in Borger for 37 years, retiring in 1985. The couple moved to Amarillo in 1993. He was a member of Comanche Trail Church of Chirst.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Diana Fern Cary and husband, Joby, of Amarillo; two sons, Dwight Keith Galyon and wife, Bobbie, of Amarillo and Phillip Linn Galyon and wife, Debbie, of Tualatin, Ore.; two sisters, Nita J. Mayo of Sheridan, Ark., and Melba J. Shipman of Coleman, Okla.; six grandchildren, Amy D. Garcia, Kimberly A. Reynolds, Jerrod H. Galyon, Crystal D. Chotkowski, Jennifer K. Galyon and W. Sage Galyon; nine great-grandchildren; eight nieces; and six nephews.

The family suggests memorials be to Children's Emergency Home or to the Tiffany Fletcher Medical Fund, in care of Comanche Trail Church of Christ, P.O. Box 30516, Amarillo, TX 79120-0516.
